fun on the rooftop

Having fun on the rooftop of the new water front mall in Bloemfontein. We were taking pictures of the opposite building.

Annual Reports

I have been designing annual reports (3) for the past month, and it’s a drag. Working with government people is an experience, that if you make it, you live to tell stories about for rest of your working career. Firstly they give incomplete content for a 200 pager and you have a day (8 working hours but for a designer its 24 working hours) to do it. After spending sleepless nights they come back with updated/corrected content, and to them it’s just a click of a button to update the content.

I think we should have a workshop for clients (government clients) to take them through the process of working with creative/production people. Educate them on the different steps we take to get to the final product. Or may be lady luck was not on my side, and I ended up with the departments that know little about the design process.

www.poetrypotion.com

This is a website by an old friend of mine, that I helped to create (with Kamuso). I think she is a good poet/writer and this website is a great idea. It took long to get it going and now its a matter of growing it and feeding it...and it feeding the visitors soul with good poetry, news and art. Take some time and visit it www.poetrypotion.com

workspace

Since I have moved back to my hometown, Bloemfontein, living with my family. This is my workspace at home in my bedroom, when I'm not in the office. This is where some of my ‘best’ designs come from.

I'm currently working for a company called C-Squared as a senior designer, even though I sometimes feel like a junior designer. I think it’s the fear that the title "senior" will go up to head and I will think I know it all. This will make me not learn and believe what I'm doing is the best and I'm the best. Like Paul Adren says (in his book - It's not how good you are, Its how good you want to be) 'experience is the opposite of being creative'.

Working at C-Squared is been great, working with Johann Venter(Art Director) whom I’m learning quite a lot from.

Bio

Finally, AIRBORNE - The online presences of 26 year-old creative Nelson Nyokong. The primary purpose is to promote the work of graphic designer Nelson Nyokong. To display both corporate and private works, thoughts and words on design. Nelson’s professional career started in 2003 after graduating from WITS Technikon( now called the University of Johannesburg). He has a wealth of experience which span from design for print to design for screen, with a passion for everything design related.

So why AIRBORNE
The concept is based around the air force fighter planes. At the baseline when a fighter plane is taking off its announced “AIRBORNE!!”. Is about getting a company, an individual or a brand off the ground and into the air. By using creative design, with good design that connects with audience that it is intended for and holds direct marketing concept. To be airborne. Its about taking off, transported by air...
