Count-down to start making it

I have since uploaded a counter on the Blog, don’t know if you have noticed. I’m on a mission, I have set a goal - before I turn the big three zero, I need to have made a million rand. Plain simple I want to be a Millionaire. This whole idea was sparked when I was at bookshop and I missed an opportunity of buying a book titled “ Make your First Million before you turn 30” unknown author.

By having the counter here on my Blog is like having a reminder that everything I do from now on, must count and bring in the money. I want, apart from assertes, a million in my back account or in different places like you always see in the movies. The hustler/thug will have money stashed everywhere.

Friends, wish me luck and hope you help me get my first million as I cant do it without your help. The clock is ticking.

hello world

Its been a while since I posted anything on my blog. And the sun has rise and sit, a lot has happened I don’t even know where to begin.

I have been thinking about my personal brand for a long time, when I recall that’s the reason I started this blog. I also worked on my book “I design, therefore I am”. I’m beginning to recognize the importance of personal brand. As a designer I can become my own business and therefore I need to become a brand and speak for myself. I’m reading and researching a lot on self brand and its not too far from the sort of branding (product/company branding) that I’m doing.

I came across a post on a some blog talking about self-brand, “You are your Brand and your brand is you”. And they say the first thing is to start asking people who know a simple question: “When you think of me, what is the first thing that comes to mind?” , I got some funny answers, but could I expect from my crazy friends and ex-colleagues. I have quoted them, unedited below:

Soulfyah branding

Finally, I just completed the Soulfyah brand and the website: www.soulfyah.co.za. Initially I wanted to keep the applications and the site very clean and minimal, so to let the Soulfyah products standout more. But my client wanted us to bring some of the ornaments of the products on the stationary. It all turned out beautiful.

Afur Branding

I just completed my friends Identity for his fashion label. Still have to do all the collaterals and a mini website/blog.

Corporate & Branding Identity: Talawa

This is just some designs that I did as options for Talawa Communications. The client choose the other designs, but i still think this is some cool designs.

Creative Agents/Managers

You know how athletes, musician and models have managers and agents who take care of their needs and getting them contracts and sponsorships. I wonder if there are agents for creative/designers. I mean we (creatives) are also talent worth investing in and taken care, to see to it that we get the right deal. Sorry to say this, but, creatives are even better investments unlike your 'blond models', as we have the brains to talk about and represent your brand.

I have seen good designers that get raw deals and are exploited. Some don’t know their own potential. Creatives don’t need to worry about negotiating contracts; they need to concentrate all their energies on creative and creating solution. The only creative that I know that’s well taken of is Joshua Davis. Brands like BMW want to be associated with him. He is becoming a brand, like he said once: “ I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man”(from some insert on the net). And then comes unpaid pitches/tenders. Where we (creatives) spend a great deal of time and efforts to pitch and never get rewarded. I’m not even going to waist my breath on this one.

If there are agents for creatives, please come forward and make your services available.
